Yankees’ Amed Rosario sends credit to teammates after huge 2-homer game
Seasoned veterans are a necessary component of a championship-caliber team, and the New York Yankees hope that infielder Amed Rosario’s early April heroics and team-oriented spirit will be part of their journey towards a deep October run.
Rosario mashed two home runs in Tuesday night’s 5-3 victory over the Athletics, and while his celebrations after each long ball were boisterous, the veteran chose to speak about his teammates rather than himself when all was said and done.
“All these guys are great teammates, always supporting one another,” Rosario told reporters after the win.
The 30-year-old mashed his first home run of the game in the bottom of the second inning when he sent a solo shot off Athletics starter Aaron Civale into the left field seats. Later, with New York trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth, the Santo Domingo native ripped a three-run homer off former Yankees reliever Mark Leiter Jr. to put his team ahead permanently.
“He’s become beloved in that room in short order,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “I think they all get thrilled by his successes, too.”
Rosario was acquired by the Yankees ahead of last season’s MLB trade deadline. New York sent Clayton Beeter and outfielder Browm Martinez to the Washington Nationals in exchange for the journeyman’s services.
Across 16 regular-season games with the Yankees in 2025, he hit .303 and posted a .788 OPS. Despite not being an everyday player, he made his presence felt by supporting teammates and being ready for any given moment.
“That’s one of the things that struck me about him last year was just how good he was at staying ready and prepared.”
The team brought Rosario back this season on a one-year, $2.5 million deal this past offseason.
Boone started Rosario in place of third baseman Ryan McMahon on Tuesday. It remains to be seen how much playing time he will receive going forward, but he’s made it clear that he can provide a jolt when called upon.
