Wyndham Championship betting tips: Three longshot picks for this week on the PGA Tour

The PGA Tour’s last regular season event takes place at Sedgefield County Club in North Carolina this week, with an intense battle anticipated at the Wyndham Championship.

With the top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings qualifying for the St. Jude Championship, the first play-off event, there are plenty of players in and around the bubble eyeing a strong performance.

Cameron Young cantered to a six-shot win last year and he is the 17/2 favourite to join Sam Snead as the only players to retain the title.

Jackson Koivun, who broke his PGA Tour duck at the 3M Open last month, comes next in the betting at 16/1, ahead of 22/1 chances Ryan Gerard and Hideki Matsuyama.

Rai eyes second Wyndham title

Aaron Rai landed the biggest win of his career at the PGA Championship in May, becoming a Major champion for the first time, before recording his best US Open finish the following month when tied 11th.

The Englishman has missed his last two cuts, at the Scottish Open and The Open, but he should be refreshed after taking some time off and a trip to Sedgefield could bring the best out of him.

Rai’s first PGA Tour win came at the Wyndham Championship in 2024 and his solid tee-to-green game is perfectly suited to this tricky course which rewards accuracy over power.

The 31-year-old, who was tied fifth on his Wyndham defence, is second in driving accuracy, 20th in greens in regulation and 19th in strokes gained tee-to-green on the US circuit.

Poston can deliver more Sedgefield success

Another former Wyndham Championship winner in this week’s field is J.T. Poston, who went bogey-free across 72 holes when lifting the trophy in 2019.

The American was seventh in the 2023 edition and 11th last year, further evidence of his warm affinity for this course, and he looks set for another strong outing in North Carolina.

Poston has been quiet since winning The Memorial Tournament in June, but he also arrives here after taking a break since the Open at Royal Birkdale and the batteries should be recharged for this end-of-season run-in.

Snedeker to sneak into play-offs

One of the players outside of the play-off places is Brandt Snedeker, who needs a sixth-placed finish or better to qualify for the St. Jude Championship.

The American is a two-time Wyndham Championship winner, reaching -22 at Forest Oaks in 2007 before getting to -21 at Sedgefield in 2018.

Snedeker has a further three top-five finishes and one top 10 to his name at this course and he has the ability to deliver when he needs it most.

The 45-year-old is accurate off the tee, evidenced by his ranking of seventh in driving accuracy, while top-20 positions in total putting, putts per round and overall putting average show how good he is on the greens.
