WWE star CM Punk opens up on his marriage with AJ Lee: ‘I got married at the right time’

In a relationship for several years now, CM Punk and AJ Lee tied the knot and got married over a decade ago in 2014. Punk parted ways with WWE after Royal Rumble 2014 over creative differences and was later fired on his wedding day by Vince McMahon.

Maintaining a sour relationship with the promotion for several years, Punk made his much-awaited return at the 2023 WWE Survivor Series PLE. Shortly after, he found himself in the main event spot. A couple of years later, his wife, AJ Lee, also made her shocking return to the promotion.

In a recent appearance on Nightcap, Punk opened up about his marriage to Lee. Despite getting fired at that time from WWE, Punk called it the “right moment” for his marriage. “I got married in 2014 after I left. It was, and it wasn’t (by design) – whether I stayed or I went, I was getting married. But I did always think this life is remarkably hard, especially for people who were married or had kids.

“I did the bulk of my career single, not a care in the world, no responsibility to anybody else but the wrestlers on the crew, and I devoted my life to it. I didn’t have to split time or split focus, and the fruits of my labor were the success I got from that focus. But I left at the right time, I got married at the right time, now my wife’s back, and we get to enjoy working together, and it’s really been amazing,” he finished.

The couple has interacted several times on television as well as tagged together during Lee’s return match at WrestlePalooza 2025. Now, Punk is set to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 42, while AJ Lee is scheduled to defend her Women’s Intercontinental title against Becky Lynch.
