World Cup England Outright Prediction: Betting tips for Three Lions

After months of waiting, the time is nearly here as football fans plan their summer around the upcoming World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

While the Premier League has yet to finish, England’s squad was announced on Friday and manager Thomas Tuchel has made some gutsy calls ahead of his first tournament as Three Lions boss.

The likes of Phil Foden, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Cole Palmer and Harry Maguire were all not named in the travelling 26-man party, while despite some strong domestic form, Adam Wharton, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Lewis Hall and Morgan Gibbs-White were also snubbed.

With the squad now set, attention can now turn to England’s prospects and we have taken a look at the likely stage of elimination for the Three Lions.

World Cup England Outright Prediction Tip:

England to be eliminated in the semi-finals @ 9/2

England’s World Cup campaign begins on June 17 against Croatia, which is their hardest fixture in Group L. They also take on Ghana and Panama before the end of June and all signs point to the Three Lions winning Group L.

Croatia continue to punch above their weight in recent tournaments, but their aging squad should be no match for Tuchel’s men.

With England expected to win Group L, Tuchel’s outfit will then take on a third-place finisher from either Group E, H, I, J or K. There are as many as 20 possible teams that they could face.

In the Round of 16, the highest-ranked team England could face if they win Group L is Mexico. The only difficulty with that tie is that it would take place at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.

Again, World Cups often throw up surprises and shocks, so England’s quarter-final opponents are far from guaranteed, however, Brazil are England’s most likely last-eight rivals.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team are not the force they once were and they only finished fifth in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers.

With England tipped to advance, it is expected that reigning champions Argentina could be waiting in the semi-finals.

The two teams have met on four occasions in the World Cup, both teams winning two apiece.

Argentina, like England, breezed through qualifying, winning 12 of their 18 games. They finished nine points clear of second-placed Ecuador and still have a well-rounded squad.

While this summer’s tournament will likely be Lionel Messi’s last, he is supported in attack by Lautaro Martinez, Julian Alvarez, Nicolas Gonzalez and it is England’s defence that could be their Achilles heel this summer.

Tuchel has proven during his time as a club manager that he is adaptable and can tweak things to get the job done, but Argentina’s big-game experience at this level should help them over the line.

The Three Lions are always under immense pressure to deliver, but the most likely path to the semis means they may well fall short in the final four.
