3 things to watch for on World Cup 2026 Day 15

Here are three things to watch for and fun facts to amaze and entertain your friends with on Day 15 of the 2026 World Cup.
How will Group D shake out outside of the USMNT?
Australia and Paraguay are both in a good position to move on to the Round of 32 after they both beat Turkey. If they were to draw their head-to-head matchup on Thursday night, the Socceroos would move forward as the second-place team, but Paraguay would be almost guaranteed to move on as well as the third-place side.
As for the USMNT, this game means nothing in the standings, as they have already clinched first place and will likely play Bosnia and Herzegovina in the next round. Still, sitting all the starters here would mean a twelve-day layoff for them, and that could hurt momentum. Plus, winning three games in a row to start a World Cup would be historic for U.S. soccer.
Who will join Germany in Group E?
With Germany’s fate already assured, this is a fight between the Ivory Coast, Ecuador, and Curaçao. The African side is sitting on three points, while the mainland South American team and the Caribbean Island nation both have one point. Anything short of a win vs. Germany means Ecador is out. Any kind of point vs. Curacao means Ivory Coast is in.
What gets really interesting is if Curacao can somehow upset the Ivory Coast. Four points should get a team to the next round, so even if Ecuador wins, a Curacao W would mean that the smallest country in World Cup 2026 (approximately 156,000 people) would advance to the Knockout Stage.
What will happen with Group F?
The most likely outcome here is that the Netherlands beat Tunisia handily and Japan and Sweden draw, which would likely see the Netherlands, Japan, and Sweden all go through, in that order. If Japan and the Netherlands both win, though, then it gets interesting. That would give both teams seven points.
Looking at tiebreakers, these teams drew against each other, currently have a +4 goal differential, and the Dutch have just one more goal than the Japanese. That means the group winner could come down to which team got more cards or even FIFA rankings, which would put eighth-ranked Netherlands in first over 16th-ranked Japan.
