Wolves outcast Tolu Arokodare set to join former Champions League winners on initial loan deal

Ajax are set to sign Wolves striker Tolu Arokodare on loan with an option to buy, talkSPORT understands.

The Nigeria international is closing in on a move to the Dutch giants in a deal worth £17million plus add-ons if made permanent.

Wolves are also set to receive a £1million loan fee along with further bonuses totalling £500,000 if Ajax qualify for Europe this season.

The Eredivisie side will also cover 100 per cent of Arokodare’s wages during his time in Amsterdam.

A top three finish or victory in the Dutch Cup this term would trigger the European qualification bonus.

Ajax are currently playing in the Conference League having won the Eredivisie’s European play-off last season.

Arokodare will have the chance to feature in the competition, with Ajax leading Vojvodina 4-1 after the first leg of their second qualifying round tie.

His potential move to the Netherlands comes after reports Wolves cancelled a training session after he refused to leave the pitch.

The incident is said to have occurred last week and related to a failed move away from the club.

However, Arokodare later took to social media to deny the claims in a statement.

The 25-year-old has not yet featured in pre-season for new manager Cesar Peixoto’s side.

He was not part of the matchday squad for either of their opening two friendlies against Maidenhead and Real Sociedad.

Arokodare arrived at Molineux last summer from Belgian side Genk after finishing as the league’s top scorer the previous season.

The forward scored six goals in 38 appearances across all competitions for Wolves last term.

His side were subsequently relegated from the Premier League after an eight-year stay in the top flight.

Peixoto has since been appointed as manager following the departure of Rob Edwards.

Wolves have so far brought in four new signings ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Those include Ladislav Krejci’s loan being made permanent as well as the free transfer arrivals of Raul Jimenez and Kieran Trippier.

Winger Rafiki Said has also joined the club from Standard Liege.

Wolves begin the new Championship season at home to Blackburn Rovers on August 14 following a Carabao Cup first round tie against Port Vale a week earlier.
