Wizards rumors: Why there’s no reason to expect new coach to start Anthony Davis, Trae Young era
The Washington Wizards have been in rebuild mode, but they’ve made a few moves during the season to show that they won’t be there for long. Trading for Trae Young and Anthony Davis were the two big indicators that they plan on competing next season, and they’ll have a top pick to add to the core from this year’s draft.
The other thing many are interested in knowing is if the Wizards will keep Brian Keefe around as the head coach, and it seems like they don’t have any plans of letting him go, according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.
“I’ve heard nothing but reassurance in terms of the Wizards and Keefe,” Siegel said on ClutchScoops. “I think he’s there to stay, and I have not heard anything to suggest otherwise that he is on the hot seat in any way. They envision him being the leader of this young team, much like how the Utah Jazz believed in Will Hardy, even though they have struggled. They like Will Hardy there; they signed him to an extension, and I kind of get the same sense from the Wizards right now. So I wouldn’t anticipate a coaching change there…”
There were rumors that the Wizards could look into Taylor Jenkins as their next head coach if they moved on from Keefe, but the Milwaukee Bucks are also interested in the former Memphis Grizzlies’ coach.
It seems as if the Wizards are content with Keefe for now, and they like what he’s done with the young players on the team this season. When Young and Davis are added to the fold, Keefe will most likely be put in the spotlight, as there will be high expectations for the team next season.
