Wizards’ AJ Dybantsa meets John Wall on first trip to Washington

Washington Wizards rookie AJ Dybantsa met John Wall in his first trip to the nation’s capital since being selected first overall in this year’s draft. Dybantsa is joining forces with Wizards’ Trae Young, who just inked an extension, making the two Washington’s pillars of the near future.

However, Dybantsa, spent some time with a retired five-time All-Star and former Wizards starting point guard in Wall at the Wizards’ practice facility, as the two shared a laugh.

While Bradley Beal is the previous Wizards player to be named to an All-Star team (2021), John Wall is right behind him, with both representing the Wizards in the 2018 All-Star Game. Wizards fans are hoping Dybantsa, while leading Washington through its rebuilding phase, will be next sometime in the near future.

Former All-Star John Wall gave Wizards rookie AJ Dybantsa advice ahead of his first season in the NBA. Wall, who was also the first overall pick in the NBA Draft, played nine seasons with the Wizards from 2010 to 2019, reminded Dybantsa of his new community of fans.

Wall advised Dybantsa to build a strong bond with Wizards fans, according to Wizards reporter Chase Hughes.

“Really tap into the community, they love you here…. I saw the video of [fans] at the Anthem,” Dybantsa said about his conversation with Wall.

As for teamming up with Trae Young, who inked a four-year, $212 million extension with the Wizards, he’s looking forward to building their chemistry on the court.

“I think we can definitely find a balance. I can play off-ball,” Dybantsa said. “Obviously not a lot of people have seen that, but I played off-ball at Prolific Prep, with Tyran Stokes and those guys. With [Team] USA, I’m not the number one option…I have to pave my way. I’m walking in with some vets [on the team], I have to earn my spot.”

Averaging 25.5 points on 51% shooting, Dybantsa won the NCAA scoring title as a freshman at BYU last season,
