Will Alek Manoah pitch soon? Latest injury update on Angels pitcher
The Los Angeles Angels are off to an 8-8 start in the young season. Still, they have already been dealing with injuries, as Angels pitcher Robert Stephenson has been ruled out for the year, and Alek Manoah has yet to pitch this year.
Now, the team is providing an update on Manoah, who has been on the IL since the end of March.
Manoah, who had his right middle fingernail fall off after a start on March 17, threw to hitters on April 11.
“Came out really good, feeling good. Still working on getting back and dealing with that,” manager Kurt Suzuki said. “He’s progressing really good.”
The pitcher is expected to return to the rotation in April and has been throwing bullpen sessions at the club’s complex in Arizona.
Manoah was the 11th overall selection of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays. He was promoted to the MLB roster in May 2021 and made his first start that season. He had a strong first two seasons with the club and was named an all-star in 2022.
In 2023, he struggled and would spend time in Triple-A before being injured in 2024 and needing UCL surgery. Manoah did not pitch for the Blue Jays at the MLB level when he returned in 2025 and would be designated for assignment. While the Atlanta Braves picked him up off waivers, he never pitched for the team and was not tendered by the club, making him a free agent.
Manoah was hoping to rebound in 2026, after signing a one-year deal with the Angels, but has yet to take the mound in the regular season.
