Why Warriors’ Brandin Podziemski isn’t trying to be the next Stephen Curry

Brandin Podziemski has the privilege of playing alongside one of the greatest players in NBA history in Stephen Curry. However, the young guard doesn’t plan on following in the footsteps of the future Golden State Warriors Hall of Famer.

Podziemski completed his third season in the NBA with the Warriors. While he enjoyed another year where he improved his game, Golden State suffered through injuries as the team missed out on the playoffs after making it last year.

Podziemski spoke to media during exit interviews on Monday, via 95.7 The Game. It was there where he expressed his thoughts on being teammates with Curry, stressing the fact that he can’t be like his star teammate and that he has to focus on being the best version of himself.

“Obviously, anybody would wanna be better than Steph. I know I’m not gonna be better than Steph. He’s the only person that can be Steph… I’m just trying to be the best version of Brandin Podziemski I can be,” Podziemski said.

What lies ahead for Brandin Podziemski, Warriors

Brandin Podziemski knows it will take a lot for him to elevate his game to a star level. While he won’t achieve the heights Stephen Curry reached, he can still attempt a strong effort to become an important piece in the Warriors’ chances of success next season and beyond.

Podziemski continues to improve as a scorer and playmaker after Year 3 in the NBA. He played in all 82 games of the regular season as he produced 13.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. He had shooting splits of 45.5% from the field, including 37.1% from beyond the arc, and 79.7% from the free-throw line.

Golden State finished with a 37-45 record on the season, having the 10th spot in the Western Conference standings. They beat the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round of the play-in tournament but saw their season end after falling to the Phoenix Suns for the eighth seed.
