Why Mets’ Carlos Mendoza knows Freddy Peralta will ‘bounce back’ after Phillies loss

Carlos Mendoza is maintaining his support for pitcher Freddy Peralta following the pitcher’s immense struggles throughout the New York Mets’ 15-3 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night.

Peralta is going through the ninth season of his MLB career, his first with the Mets. He spent the first eight years of his time in the majors with the Milwaukee Brewers before embracing a new chapter with New York.

However, the veteran pitcher is off to a bumpy start in his stint at the Empire State. Peralta, in his worst career performance, allowed 10 earned runs on 10 hits and one walk over 2 ²/₃ innings against Philadelphia’s attack.

Mendoza reflected on the team’s loss after the game. While the results against Philadelphia were brutal, the manager believes that Peralta is capable of bouncing back in a significant manner throughout his next set of appearances.

“If somebody’s able to bounce back after bad outings, it’s a guy like Freddy. He’s a competitor, he’s a guy who’s gonna come back the next day and look for ways to get better,” Mendoza said.

How Freddy Peralta, Mets played against Phillies

Carlos Mendoza is right to not give up on Freddy Peralta for this performance. However, the manager will keep close watch on the pitcher’s form for his next appearances on the mound this season. That will certainly be the case after the Mets lost to the Phillies in this fashion.

Philadelphia landed a big punch on the Mets bullpen, jumping out to an 11-0 lead after three innings. New York got on the board in the fourth inning, but the offense was unable to help the team recover from the poor start, seeing Philadelphia breeze past them in the middle contest.

New York fell to a 34-42 record on the season, remaining at the bottom of the NL East Division standings. They are behind the Miami Marlins and the Washington Nationals at the moment.

The Mets will look to bounce back in their series finale against the Phillies. The contest is set for June 21 as first pitch happens at 7:20 p.m. ET.
