Why do Manchester United have a different front-of-shirt sponsor tonight?

Manchester United will be wearing a special one-off shirt tonight at Old Trafford when they take on Brentford.

The Red Devils usually don the Snapdragon logo on their kits, following the world-record deal signed back in 2023.

But a big change is going to be made this evening, with fans sure to notice the switch on the front of the players’ shirts.

And here’s why there’s a new sponsor on Man United‘s kits…

Why do Man United have a different sponsor?

United will switch from Snapdragon to (RED) as the sponsor on the front of their shirts just for their clash with Brentford.

The change has been made to support the fight against AIDS.

(RED) is a charity, co-founded by Bono in 2006, that partners with iconic brands to ‘create products and experiences that raise money, heat and urgency to fight against global health injustice.

And it was announced in January that United would be partnering with them for a second time after doing so last season.

The club said: “Snapdragon and Manchester United are coming together to support the global fight against health injustice by putting the (RED) logo on the front of United’s famous shirt for the second consecutive year.

“(RED) will appear on the front of Manchester United’s shirt for the men’s match against Brentford on 27 April at Old Trafford and the women’s match against Tottenham Hotspur on 26 April* in London.

The limited-edition adidas shirt will be available for supporters to buy and all net profits will be donated to (RED)’s Global Fund, which has raised more than $800 million since its launch 20 years ago. Additional matching will also be made by The Gates Foundation.

Shirts will be made available to buy via the auction platform MatchWornShirt until May 2.

Marc Armstrong, Chief Business Officer at Man United, said: “Through the power and innovation of our partnership with Snapdragon we are, once again, proud to use the front of the famous Manchester United shirt to raise awareness and tell the story of the vital work undertaken by (RED) to fight against health injustice.

“Snapdragon shares our ambition to use football as a force for good and the second year of this initiative underlines that aspiration.

“Especially at a time when the world faces enormous challenges in supporting the most vulnerable in society.”
