Why Carmelo Anthony doesn’t want to be a coach
Carmelo Anthony has done virtually everything the game of basketball has to offer. All of which was enough for him to be enshrined amongst the best in Springfield, Massachusetts, in the Basketball Hall of Fame.
However, he has never taken on the role of head coach. A role that he has no intentions of taking. He made it clear on his podcast, 7 pm in Brooklyn. In a discussion with the No.1 NBA draft pick, AJ Dybantsa, Anthony said he would rather operate in the realm of development.
“I don’t want to be a coach… I’d rather develop,” Anthony said.
Dybansta, whom the Washington Wizards picked up, agreed with Anthony.
“Why am I drawing something up?. Just go get the bucket… Now I gotta draw up a play… I’ll be a horrible coach

Some are under the impression that if you excel on the court, you naturally excel as a coach. However, that hasn’t always been the case. Legends of the game, including Isiah Thomas, Magic Johnson, and Bill Russell, were overwhelmingly poor coaches.
Plus, coaching in the NBA would put Anthony under more scrutiny than playing. Also, there is the daily grind of coaching an 82-game schedule and the possible reluctance to delegate responsibilities to others.
Anthony is committed to his business and media ventures in his post-playing career.
While Anthony states he would never coach in the NBA, he has coached his 19-year-old son, Kiyan. He is also the Co-General Manager of Basketball Operations at Oak Hill Academy, his alma mater.
Anthony focuses on developing high school prospects.
