Why Allisha Gray believes Angel Reese is the ‘missing piece’ for Dream

The Atlanta Dream went out during the offseason and maybe made the biggest splash, acquiring Angel Reese from the Chicago Sky. After having a solid season with more room for improvement, the Dream added a two-time All-Star and rebounding champion to their team.

The league knows what Reese can bring when she’s on the floor, and the Dream thinks that she’s what they need to take them over the top.

“She fills a lot of holes for us,” Allisha Gray said via ESPN’s Kendra Andrews. “A lot of people look at her as just a rebounder but she’s more than that. She can defend the ball, get the ball and take it the full 94 feet. She can score in transition and hit the 15-foot short jump. There is so much to her game, and I feel like with Angel, adding her to this team, it’s what we were missing.”

What makes it even better for the Dream is that Atlanta was a place where Reese wanted to be.

“How could you not be happy here?” Reese said. “It just feels great. I always wanted to come to Atlanta. When you think of championship culture, playing next to these players, the coach [we have], it just made sense. … I didn’t care about anything else but being here.”

Already through training camp, Reese has seen how the game will be easier for her when she’s on the court with players such as Gray and Rhyne Howard.

“The paint is wide open, and I can drive [and] come down until somebody stops me. Everybody’s on Lish and on Rhyne, staying with JC, so it opens up the floor … it makes the job easier for me, where I don’t have to always take the shot,” Reese said after the first day of training camp.

The next step for the Dream is putting it all together on the court in a real game, and they’ll have the chance to do that in their first preseason game against the Chicago Sky.
