White Sox’s Will Venable hints at intriguing starting pitcher move for Saturday’s game
The Chicago White Sox are without a probable pitcher for their game on June 13 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Will Venable has an idea of who they might bring up for the job, according to baseball analyst Bruce Levine.
“White Sox are considering promoting top pitching prospect Hagen Smith for Saturday game according to Will Venable. The manager said Smith is one of the team’s options that day,” Levine wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Smith has posted a 3.76 ERA and 1.32 WHIP while striking out 79 batters in 52.2 innings at Triple-A Charlotte. There’s no doubt that he’s shown flashes in the minor leagues, and the White Sox see what he can bring to the majors. Though Venable is leaving the door open for him to get promoted, he noted that they may keep him in the minors for the time being and rely on their bullpen against the Dodgers.
The White Sox have been playing well this season as they’re currently 36-31 and first place in the AL Central. They have some room for improvement, and they could be a team to look out for as buyers at the trade deadline. Tarik Skubal is the one name who continues to be thrown out in trade rumors, as it’s expected the Detroit Tigers will trade him, but will the White Sox get in the sweepstakes?
At this time, it’s uncertain what they plan on doing, but if they want to separate themselves from the rest of the division, they’ll need to make a big move.
