When Dodgers pitcher Edwin Diaz could return from April elbow surgery

The Los Angeles Dodgers dealt a huge blow involving Edwin Diaz Monday. The right-handed pitcher must undergo April elbow surgery and will miss action for LA.

But is he missing the entire season with his MLB Injury?

LA fans can breathe out relief, as Diaz is expected to return by the MLB All-Star break in July. Diaz will undergo surgery at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic for his right elbow.

Manager Dave Roberts hasn’t turned to Diaz all that much in the past 10 days anyway. Prior to Monday’s news, he only threw on the mound once in nine days.

Diaz struggled greatly against the Colorado Rockies on Sunday, though. He struggled to retire the four batters he faced at Coors Field. Colorado pounded three hits total facing Diaz and scored three runs during the 9-6 win.

Diaz entered in the bottom of the eighth inning too with LA down 6-4. But Colorado expanded the lead by five runs in taking advantage of Diaz. The veteran came after Colorado through an array of four-seam fastballs and sliders. Diaz now has a current ERA of 10.50, one of the worst marks in the MLB.

He wasn’t the only Dodgers pitcher struggling that afternoon.

Roki Sasaki started on the mound and endured a very shaky start. Sasaki pitched in 4.2 innings but allowed seven total hits in the loss. Kyle Karros also pounded one home run facing Sasaki in the game.

The back-to-back world champion Dodgers can avoid the three-game sweep Monday night. Left hander Jake Eder will take Diaz’s spot on an interim basis.
