What Phillies’ Dave Dombrowski said about Rob Thomson’s burning hot seat
The Philadelphia Phillies are struggling at the moment. Philadelphia is now 8-15 overall after Tuesday’s 7-4 loss to the Chicago Cubs. The Phillies have dropped seven consecutive games as well. Rumors have swirled about manager Rob Thomson’s job security which led to Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski being asked about it after Tuesday’s contest, via Todd Zolecki of MLB.com.
“We’re not, but if we were, I wouldn’t even … that’s not something we’d ever share,” Dombrowski said. “Rob Thomson’s been a good manager for us since 2021. We always look at everything that’s taken place, but no that’s not being pondered at this point.”
According to Dombrowski, Thomson’s job security is fine at the moment. Nevertheless, Philadelphia will need to turn things around soon. The ball club entered the 2026 campaign with lofty aspirations.
The good news is that Zack Wheeler is set to return soon. Wheeler is one of the best starting pitchers in MLB and he will certainly give the Phillies a crucial boost.
Additionally, it is only April. The Phillies would not be the first team to endure a difficult first month of the season before bouncing back later in the year. There is plenty of time to get back on track.
There is pressure on Thomson to begin winning on a consistent basis. He has yet to lead the team to a championship, so the Phillies’ current struggles are being discussed even more at the moment. If Philadelphia had won the World Series within the past couple of seasons, then perhaps there would be less pressure on the manager to win now.
