What makes Cubs’ back-to-back walk-offs vs. Reds even crazier
The Chicago Cubs have won the first two games of their series with the Cincinnati Reds. It is the Cubs’ 13th straight win at home, the longest streak they have had since 2008.
The last two games have both been wins in walk-off fashion. On Monday, Michael Conforto capped a ninth-inning rally with a home run for the 5-4 victory. Then, on Tuesday night, Michael Busch singled in the bottom of the tenth inning to drive home the game-winning run.

In both games of the series, the Cubs were down late in the game. In the game on Monday, the Reds took a 4-3 lead in the top of the eighth, until Nico Hoerner tied the game on a sacrifice fly, and Conforto hit a dinger in the bottom of the ninth. In the game on Tuesday, the Cubs were down 2-1 in the bottom of the eighth when Busch hit a solo shot, leading to extra innings, where he would be the hero.
This is the first time since 2021 that the Cubs have won back-to-back games via walk-off. Even crazier, they also came on May 4 and May 5, the same exact dates as these two walk-offs.
The 2021 walk-offs came at home agaisnt the Los Angeles Dodgers. The first of the two was in the second game of a doubleheader, when David Bote hit a walk-off single that scored Kris Bryant. The next day, the Cubs tied the game in the eighth inning, forcing extra innings. Both teams scored in the tenth inning, and the Dodgers did again in the top of the 11th. Still, the Cubs tied the game before Anthony Rizzo hit a walk-off single.
The Cubs are now 24-12 on the year, which is good for first place in the NL Central. They look to extend their win streak to eight games on Wednesday night as Colin Rea takes to the mound.
