What Dodgers’ Mookie Betts most recently said about his injury recovery

After suffering an oblique strain while running the bases against the Washington Nationals, Los Angeles Dodgers fans have been waiting with bated breath for the latest update on shortstop Mookie Betts.

Fortunately, that came on April 14 via an appearance on AM 570 LA Sports, and the update couldn’t have been better for the eight-time All-Star.

“I’m able to throw, run, I feel it, but it’s not that bad. I haven’t started hitting yet, but we’re doing like med ball throws,” Betts said. “So we wanna get fully comfortable with throwing the med ball and not having really any hesitation with that before we start swinging. Just cuz I don’t wanna start developing bad habits cuz I’m scared to swing. So, but I mean, with all that being said, things are going great. I mean, it’s just an oblique, and it’s gonna take time.”

Asked if Betts’ injuries have impacted his daily life, the six-time Gold Glove winner said no, noting that he’s only really feeling issues while doing sports activities.

“No, just when I start doing like sports stuff. I mean, everyday life now is way better. I mean, now I’m pretty normal. It’s just when I get here, and I start having to do like sports-specific stuff, is when I start feeling it,” Betts said. “And it’s not that it hurts. I mean, it’s not that it hurts, it’s just that you feel it, and the more you don’t really wanna, you don’t wanna feel it. Cuz the more you feel it, that means it’s still healing and any quick movements from there can just re-injure it, and then we’re in a much worse spot.”

After officially landing on the 10-day IL on April 12, Betts still has to wait through a few more series until he’s eligible to return to the field. Fortunately, if the Dodgers can get through their series with the Mets with a win, they have a four-game series against the Colorado Rockies before closing out their road trip in San Francisco against their rival Giants, where Betts will be eligible to play before the finale.
