What Alexander Isak’s injury will mean for Mohamed Salah’s immediate Liverpool future

Mohamed Salah is expected to stay at Liverpool beyond the January transfer window, talkSPORT understands.

The Reds talisman has faced strong speculation over his Liverpool future after a bombshell interview earlier in December where he claimed the club had thrown him under the bus.

While Salah has since appeared to patch things up with the club, returning to their side days after being left out of their squad to face Inter Milan, he has continued to be linked with a January exit.

However, sources close to Salah believe Alexander Isak’s injury means the Premier League champions are extremely unlikely to sanction a move in the upcoming transfer window.

Salah has a mega money offer to move to the Saudi Pro League that will stay on the table next summer.

British record signing Isak suffered a suspected leg fracture whilst scoring in Liverpool’s 2-1 win at Tottenham on Saturday.

The Reds are currently awaiting results from an MRI scan which is expected to confirm the Swede will spend several months on the sidelines.

Isak went down immediately after Spurs defender Micky van de Ven caught him as he hit the ball into the back of the net.

The 26-year-old had to be substituted after receiving treatment on the pitch, with head coach Arne Slot later admitting they would ‘wait and see’ regarding the injury.

But with Isak now looking set for a lengthy absence, this is likely to have a knock-on effect on Salah’s future.

The 33-year-old is currently away on international duty with Egypt, who begin their Africa Cup of Nations campaign on Monday night.

He could be out of the Liverpool side for up to four weeks, if the Pharoahs make it all the way to the final on January 18.

What is Mohamed Salah’s current situation?

Salah departed for AFCON after finding himself the centre of attention in recent weeks.

He hit the headlines after Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Leeds, when he hit out at the club for being benched for three straight games amid a difficult run of form.

In the mixed zone he revealed he felt the club had ‘thrown him under the bus’, while insisting he had ‘no relationship’ with Slot.

After these comments he was left out of Liverpool’s squad to face Inter Milan in the San Siro.

Salah returned against Brighton though after clear the air talks with manager Slot but he will now join up with Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations, which could see him miss a month of Premier League action.
