India’s wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan produced a stunning moment in the T20 World Cup 2026 Final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 8, pulling off a brilliant catch to dismiss Rachin Ravindra and give India an early breakthrough.

The moment came when India’s ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah was introduced into the attack in the fourth over, similar to how he began proceedings in the semi-final against England. Bumrah bowled a delivery on the leg stump line, tempting Ravindra into playing a pick-up flick. However, the New Zealand batter failed to connect it cleanly and ended up miscuing the shot off the thick inside edge.

He was positioned at deep backward square leg and showed excellent anticipation. He sprinted forward quickly and put in a full-length dive to reach the ball. Although the ball briefly popped out when his elbows hit the ground, Kishan reacted swiftly and managed to hold on to the rebound, completing a spectacular catch.

Speaking about the match, India posted a massive 255/5 in their 20 overs, thanks to several explosive batting performances. Sanju Samson led the charge with a sensational 89 off 46 balls, smashing five fours and eight sixes at a strike rate of 193.48. His aggressive knock set the tone for India’s big total.

Young opener Abhishek Sharma also made a huge impact, scoring 52 off just 21 balls, which included six fours and three sixes at an impressive strike rate of 247.62. Meanwhile, Kishan contributed significantly with the bat as well, scoring 54 runs off 25 balls, hitting four boundaries and four sixes at a strike rate of 216.

All-rounder Shivam Dube provided the finishing touch with a quick cameo of 26 not out off eight balls, ensuring India crossed the 250-run mark. For New Zealand, James Neesham was the standout bowler, picking up 3/46 in his four overs.

India entered the tournament as the defending champions, having won the 2024 T20 World Cup after defeating South Africa in the final. A victory in the 2026 final would see India lift the trophy for the third time, making them the first team to achieve the feat.
