Kyle Schwarber came through in the clutch for the Philadelphia Phillies with a big home run in their series finale against the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night.

Schwarber progresses through the 12th season of his MLB career, his fifth with the Phillies. He shines as one of the best hitters in the entire league, racking up home runs as one of the team’s stars.

Going into the game, Philadelphia and Boston were even at one game apiece. The Phillies obtained the 2-1 victory in Game 1 while the Red Sox fired back with a 3-1 win in Game 2.

Philadelphia needed to secure the series win by stunning Boston on the road. This required some big plays down the stretch, which Schwarber was more than happy to pull off with a two-run homer to right field in the top of the eighth inning. It marked his 18th home run of the season.

How Kyle Schwarber, Phillies played against Red Sox

Kyle Schwarber scored the first runs of the entire game with the two-run homer. This paved the way for the Phillies to take down the Red Sox 3-1 in the series finale.

Philadelphia’s bullpen was excellent as it limited Boston’s attack to just one total run after nine full innings. Jesus Luzardo started on the mound as they lasted six innings, striking out four batters while conceding four hits. Meanwhile, Brad Keller earned the win for his second of the year and Jhoan Duran obtained his seventh save of the campaign.

Philadelphia improved to a 21-23 record on the season, holding the second spot in the NL East Division standings. They are above the Washington Nationals and the Miami Marlins while trailing the Atlanta Braves.

The Phillies will look forward to their next series on the road. They take on the Pittsburgh Pirates as Game 1 takes place on May 15 at 6:40 p.m. ET.
