Watch Knicks’ Jose Alvarado interview AJ Dybantsa at 2026 NBA Draft
Jose Alvarado has worn multiple hats in the last month. The veteran point guard acted as an energizer during the NBA Finals and helped the New York Knicks win their first championship since 1973. He then served the role of the cooperative employee by agreeing to push back the deadline to make a decision on his $4.5 million player option, thereby giving the organization extra flexibility to make a move. And now the lively 28-year-old is serving the part of New Era Player Correspondent ahead of the 2026 NBA Draft.
Alvarado worked the red carpet and got a chance to chat with former BYU forward AJ Dybantsa, the projected No. 1 overall pick. We got a superstar coming,” he said before interviewing the 19-year-old prospect.
Dybantsa flaunted his Kenzo-centric outfit and paid homage to fellow Massachusetts native Terrence Clarke, who tragically died in a car crash in 2021. He also explained his thought process on what is the biggest night of his basketball career to this point.
“Just anxious to see what’s gonna happen,” the All-American and NCAA scoring king told the newly-crowned NBA champion.

Alvarado went undrafted in 2021, so it must be surreal for him to participate in this event just 10 days after winning a title with the Knicks. The fiery role player cannot go back in time and convince NBA executives to pick him, but he can take great satisfaction in knowing that he proved his detractors wrong. His future paycheck should reinforce that point.
Jose Alvarado has to address his player option by June 26, but he is living in the moment at the 2026 NBA Draft.
