Warriors rumors: What Draymond Green, Dubs are still willing to do with Steve Kerr back in fold

The Golden State Warriors will have head coach Steve Kerr back in the fold for at least the next two seasons following his agreement with the organization on a new contract. But even with him back, there are still some pressing roster questions the Warriors will need to answer, namely what is the plan with veteran forward Draymond Green.

Draymond Green is coming into the offseason holding a player option for the 2026-27 season. With the Warriors looking to upgrade the roster, and Green having until June 29 to use his opt out, a potential scenario gaining steam is Green opting out of his deal and re-signing on a smaller contract to help the team add impact help in the offseason, as per ClutchPoints’ NBA insider Brett Siegel.

The caveat to that happening would be the Warriors presenting Green with a firm plan on how they intend to construct a contending roster and how him taking a smaller deal would help to that end. Another thing of note is that Kerr reportedly made clear that if he was to return, Green would be a part of the team’s immediate future.

Green’s name came up in trade rumors at the deadline involving Giannis Antetokounmpo, and either Green or Jimmy Butler’s contract would have to be included as outgoing salary in a trade that would improve the roster.

Green proved he is still a productive player, most notably during the Warriors’ play-in win against the LA Clippers when his second half defensive effort on Kawhi Leonard disrupted the Clippers offense and led to the win.
