Warriors rumors: Draymond Green’s $27.7 million opt-out opens door for LeBron, Anthony Davis pursuit
Draymond Green may have just given the Golden State Warriors the opportunity to have the mega-offseason fans have been craving. The four-time NBA champion is declining his $27.7 million player option and will become a free agent, per ESPN’s Shams Charania. This move is not expected to jeopardize his future with the franchise, however. Instead, it could provide the Dubs with the financial flexibility to pursue both LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Green knows the window is closing. The future Hall of Famer turned 36th in March. He watched longtime teammate Stephen Curry celebrate his 38th birthday shortly after and witnessed Jimmy Butler leave the court with a torn ACL back in January. Green understands that a power shift has fully taken shape in the West, with the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs competing to be the alpha. But he does not intend to just go gentle into that good night.
