Warriors’ Kristaps Porzingis in danger of missing Suns play-in clash with injury
The Golden State Warriors kept their playoff hopes alive yesterday with a spirited comeback against the Los Angeles Clippers. Despite being down by nine points in the fourth quarter, the team rallied behind Stephen Curry’s immaculate performance in the second half. Now, the Warriors are getting ready to clash with the Phoenix Suns for the final spot in the playoffs.
However, the Warriors might be coming into this game down one of their key players. Kristaps Porzingis, one of the team’s midseason acquisitions, is on the injury list with right ankle soreness, per Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints. Porzingis is the only Warrior on the injury list.
As for the Warriors’ opponents, the Suns have two players listed as questionable to play in the Play-In Game. Guard Grayson Allen is dealing with an ankle injury, while center Mark Williams is listed with a foot injury as well.
Porzingis started in the Warriors’ win over the Clippers recently. He played in 28 minutes, finishing with 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field. Porzingis also added five rebounds, five assists, and two blocks in the winning effort.
The Latvian center did not play much in the regular season due to injuries, appearing in just 32 regular-season games. He played 15 of those games in a Warriors jersey. During the regular season, Porzingis averaged 16.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks for Golden State while shooting 31.1% from deep. Before the Play-In Tournament, Porzingis admitted that he wasn’t in the best shape due to the injuries he was dealing with.
“My weight and my rhythm,” Porzingis said. “Like I haven’t really played and I’m relatively healthy, I would say, aside from my wrist and this, but yeah I just need to lose a couple pounds honestly. Like, I need to, you know. And I know it sounds weird because all of my career, people have been saying, ‘you need to put on weight!’ but I’ve tried that. It doesn’t help my mobility. When I’m lighter, like how I was in Boston, it’s when I moved the best and when I’m most effective.”
