Warriors’ Draymond Green pushes back on Steve Kerr’s ‘never forgive him’ remark
It is not a secret that Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green and coach Steve Kerr have repeatedly clashed, sometimes even in full display.
Green has never been afraid to speak his mind, while Kerr is not one to back down easily either. But at the end of the day, both have always acknowledged that their spats, no matter how heated, are born out of their passion and competitiveness.
In an interview with The New Yorker’s Charles Bethea, Kerr spoke honestly about his testy relationship with Green. He admitted that they would get into “three knockdown, dragouts a year.” He added that he had to remind everyone who is in charge.
“For a long time, we had a truce. I understood him so well. He understood me. But this year, we had a major blowout in December. He’s such a unique person. There are things he’s done that I can never forgive him for, and yet I will do anything for him,” said Kerr.
While the 60-year-old Kerr did not divulge anything specific, the 36-year-old Green appeared to have been irked by what was said.
“I think I have an idea of what some of those things are, but I think that goes on both sides of it. I think when you look at our tenure and things that happened, everything hasn’t been just one way. It hasn’t just been like, ‘Oh, man, Draymond did this and Steve’s mad,'” said the former Defensive Player of the Year.
“There were things that he’s done or said that I can never get past. Right? I won’t get into those things because I think it’s unnecessary, and yet I sit on this podcast daily and talk and speak about his greatness.”
Despite their combustible relationship, Kerr and Green won four championships together. Kerr also unlocked Green’s full potential as a playmaker.
They recently had a memorable moment, along with Warriors guard Stephen Curry, when they huddled on the sideline during their loss in the Play-In Tournament.
Kerr is in the final year of his contract, while Green said he is still uncertain about his future in Golden State.
