Warriors’ Draymond Green eviscerates Austin Rivers with savage clapback

Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green went viral for his response to Austin Rivers’ criticism towards him.

Green completed the 13th season of his NBA career with the Warriors. He has built a name for himself as one of the best defenders the league has ever seen, helping Golden State win four championships throughout his time there.

Scoring hasn’t been Green’s strong suit as he placed higher priority towards playmaking and defense. That didn’t stop Rivers from being critical of Green’s lack of scoring production in the NBA during his appearance on ESPN’s Get Up show.

Green caught wind of those comments and made a statement on a May 4 episode of the Draymond Green Show. He talked about their production in high school, where both had similar numbers. The Warriors veteran even mentioned how Rivers got his biggest contract from his father Doc Rivers, who was the Los Angeles Clippers’ head coach and president of basketball operations at the time.

“Austin, you and I averaged the same amount of points in high school and I say high school cause that’s when you were at your best. Should he really talk about my NBA career? The guy received the biggest bailout in US history prior to President Trump bailing out the airlines when his dad gave him 42 million dollars,” Green said.

What lies ahead for Draymond Green, Warriors

Draymond Green made it clear that he achieved a lot in the NBA without needing to score the ball on a high volume. That was something Austin Rivers missed in his comments, as the former player experienced a difference trajectory throughout his respective career from 2012 to 2023.

Green continues to shine as one of the best defenders in the game at age 36. This season saw him average 8.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game throughout 68 appearances. He shot 41.8% from the field, including 32.6% from beyond the arc, and 70.2% from the free-throw line.

Golden State failed to make the playoffs with a 39-43 record this year. They will retool in the offseason while awaiting Steve Kerr’s decision to return as their head coach.
