Warriors’ Draymond Green clarifies appalling ‘crush them kids’ retort to fan

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is addressing the backlash surrounding a social media exchange that drew widespread criticism after he appeared to threaten two children pictured in a fan’s X, formerly known as Twitter, banner photo.

During a recent appearance on The Kevin O’Connor Show, Green clarified the intent behind his controversial response and said his comment was meant as a roast rather than a literal threat.

The incident occurred immediately after the New York Knicks defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers to take a 3-0 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals. Green, who was actively discussing the postseason on Inside the NBA, became involved in an exchange with X user @HanaHoops, a prominent Knicks fan with more than 59,000 followers on the platform.

After Hana posted, “COME OUTSIDE B**CH @Money23Green,” Green responded with a message that quickly circulated online.

“Watch your mouth before I crush those dirty ass kids in your banner,” Green wrote.

The comment sparked criticism from fans and observers who interpreted the message as a threat directed toward the children shown in the user’s profile banner. The image was later identified as HanaHoops and her twin sister during their childhood.

Speaking on The Kevin O’Connor Show, Green said the comment was taken out of context and explained that he was using language commonly associated with roasting or verbally defeating someone.

“By the way, just so we’re clear. When I told that girl ‘I’ll crush them kids,’ I looked at their picture. I was talking about ‘I’ll fry them kids,’ like I’ll roast them. I was in the spirit of roasting — I had just finished the Kevin Hart roast… I got little girls, man. I don’t put my hands on.”

Green continued by explaining how the interaction unfolded from his perspective.

“You get these people talking shit on Threads, and then you go look at their profile picture and it’s like, ‘This is you talking to me like this?’ This lady had this banner of these two dirty kids on her profile. I’m like, ‘You can’t talk to me like this and you got two little dirty kids right here, and you’re calling me the B-word?’”

Green said the phrase “crush” is commonly used among his friends as slang for verbally defeating or roasting someone.

“When me and my boys we say like, ‘Oh my god, he cooked her,’ or ‘he destroyed her,’ we say, ‘Oh my god, he crushed her.’ So when I was talking to the lady, I’m like, ‘You should stop before I crush those dirty ass kids in your banner.’ I’m in the spirit of roasting, and I’m about to crush these kids if you call me another B-word.”

Green has long been one of the NBA’s most outspoken and polarizing figures, frequently engaging with fans and critics on social media. The four-time NBA champion has also faced scrutiny throughout his career for comments and actions both on and off the court.

While Green’s latest explanation sought to clarify the meaning behind the post, the exchange remains one of the more controversial social media moments involving the Warriors veteran.
