VJ Edgecombe, Tyrese Maxey lead 76ers past Celtics for Game 2 win

We have a series, everyone! After the Boston Celtics trashed the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 1, there was a nagging feeling that we were seeing the Boston of old. The Boston team that dominated the 2025 season and would’ve made it to the Finals last year, if not for an unfortunate injury to Jayson Tatum. Many wondered how the 76ers would react to this beating they got.

Well, the 76ers punched back and dazed the Celtics on the road. In Game 2, Philadelphia fought back, pulling away in the second quarter and holding on to their lead. A dominant final quarter gave the visiting team a 111-97 win, making sure that they go back home with a tied series and stealing back homecourt advantage.

Joel Embiid remained out for the 76ers as he recovers from an emergency appendectomy he had a few weeks ago. Philadelphia needed a hero who could lead them to victory, and they got exactly that in Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe. Edgecombe led the team with a double-double of 30 points and 10 boards, scoring efficiently from all three levels (12-2o from the field, 6-of-10 from deep). Maxey, on the other hand, had 29 points, nine assists, four rebounds, and two steals. While Maxey was slightly less efficient, he did just enough to keep the Celtics at bay.

Star forward Paul George had 19 points, four rebounds, three assists, and a steal and a block to round out the scoring effort from the 76ers. On the other side, Jaylen Brown led the Celtics with 36 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Jayson Tatum had a near triple-double with 19 points, 14 rebounds, and nine assists, but he was plagued with foul trouble all game long and committed three turnovers. Brown and Tatum were the only two players in double-digits for Boston, a stark contrast from the 76ers’ five players who scored more than 10 points.

The series now shifts to Philadelphia, where the next two games will be played. The next Celtics-76ers game will be on Friday.
