Victor Wembanyama breaks silence on his controversial ejection after Spurs’ Game 5 win

The San Antonio Spurs unleashed their fury on the Minnesota Timberwolves to take the pivotal win, 126-97, in Game 5 of their second-round series in the playoffs at Frost Bank Center on Tuesday.

The Spurs led by as much as 30 points and did not allow the Timberwolves to even come close throughout the contest.

As expected, Victor Wembanyama was a man on a mission, finishing with 27 points, 17 rebounds, five assists, and three blocks. He bounced back after getting ejected in the second quarter of Game 4 for elbowing Naz Reid in the neck.

Wembanyama has stayed mum on the incident. That did not change when he was asked about it during the postgame interview in Game 5.

“We won. That’s the point,” said the Defensive Player of the Year.

“But as I said, the job’s not finished. We need to win one more game to get to the conference finals.”

The two-time All-Star lauded their response after losing in Game 4. Now, they are just a win away from advancing to the conference finals for the first time since 2017.

“We did what we were supposed to do at home. We had to set the tone. We knew it was going to be a physical game. We stayed locked in,” added Wembanyama.

He had plenty of help, with De’Aaron Fox tallying 18 points, four rebounds, and five assists, and Stephon Castle adding 17 points, four rebounds, six assists, and two steals.

Keldon Johnson, who had a funny moment in the first half, scored 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting off the bench.

The Spurs will look to eliminate the Timberwolves in Game 6 at Target Center on Friday.
