USC gets crushing injury update on key UConn transfer

The USC Trojans brought in several key transfers this offseason, including Eric Reibe who entered the portal after playing a season at UConn. Reibe played a decent sized role with the Huskies and was on pace to step into a larger role with the Trojans, but they’re going to have to wait indefinitely for Reibe to make his debut.

It was announced on Monday that Eric Reibe underwent foot surgery last week, as per The Field of 68, putting the transfer forward’s debut for USC uncertain.

Reibe was part of a group of six players USC added out of the transfer portal including Isaac Bruns, Joshua Hughes, KJ Lewis, Jalen Cox and Jaden Jones. This past season, the Trojans finished 18-14 and missed out on the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive season. It was also the second year under head coach Eric Musselman.

Reibe was a freshman last year at UConn where he appeared in 40 games, including five starts, at a little over 13 minutes per game. He averaged 5.9 points and 3.3 rebounds with splits of 65.8 percent shooting from the field, 30.8 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 52.1 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

A versatile big man who can play inside and shoot from the perimeter as well as handle the ball, Reibe was a McDonald’s All-American during his senior year in high school. A native of Germany, he moved to the United States to play out his high school years. He’s also played for the German national team at the U19 level.
