Tyson Fury to have one more warm-up fight in fresh twist before Anthony Joshua showdown

Tyson Fury’s manager, Spencer Brown, insists his client wants another warm-up fight ahead of a long-awaited clash with Anthony Joshua.

‘The Gypsy King’ blew off the cobwebs earlier this month to outpoint Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in his first fight in 16 months.

In the immediate aftermath, Fury implored Joshua to meet him in the ring for a fight that has been a decade in the making.

Fury claims to have signed his side of the deal, while Joshua is mulling over a two-fight offer from Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh.

The framework of the contract is for Joshua to have a tune-up in July before diving in at the deep end with his bitter rival in November.

And it now appears that Fury is looking to squeeze one more fight in before the big one as well.

“We’ve signed, we’re just waiting – we’re ready to go,” Brown told the Goldstar Promotions social media team.

“The thing is, Tyson has been out of the ring for a long time.

“So we’d probably want another fight before the AJ fight – a proper warm-up and then we’re ready to rock and roll.

“We’ve got an exclusive partnership with Netflix, as you can see, Tyson is doing ‘At Home with the Fury’s’.

“His last fight was done by Netflix, and I would have thought all of his fights [going forward] will be done by Netflix.

“He’s got a great partnership with them, a phenomenal company.

“So we are just waiting for Anthony and Eddie Hearn to sign…

“But it will be nice to have one more fight.

“If that is July, we won’t be able to do anything [with Anthony Joshua] till November or December, so it will have to happen quickly.”

Alalshikh will no doubt be watching on nervously from ringside when Joshua and Fury take their stay-busy bouts.

The Saudis have had awful luck with tune-ups in the past.

Both Joshua vs Deontay Wilder and Devin Haney vs Ryan Garcia II fell apart after one half of the matchup failed to win their warm-up fights.
