Two Arsenal supporters were arrested on Sunday afternoon for impersonating stewards during the Gunners’ win at Selhurst Park.

The Gunners beat Crystal Palace 2-1 in their final game of the season, which saw them lift the Premier League trophy.

It was a monumental day for the club, as they got their hands on some top-flight silverware for the first time since 2004.

And such was the occasion that Palace had to release a statement ahead of the game to warn Arsenal fans that they would be ejected from the stadium should they be seen in the home end.

Gunners supporters sold out their away allocation, so some were sure to try and attend the game by sitting among the Palace fans.

However, the Eagles had prevented their supporters from sharing their tickets to make sure that no away fans could find a seat.

The club warned: “Any supporter found sharing a ticket will be banned from buying a season ticket or membership next season.”

But that led to two Arsenal fans using an alternative method, impersonating stewards to try and get into Selhurst Park.

They were spotted wearing high-vis jackets and were arrested by police at the stadium as they attempted to walk in.

Police statement

A statement from the Met Police said: “Two men, aged 35 and 37 were arrested on suspicion of fraud by false representation.

“This is after stewards at Selhurst Park stopped two men attempting to gain entry to the stadium on Sunday, 24 May.

“They were taken to custody by officers and have since been cautioned.”

Further arrests

Alongside the two arrests made at Selhurst Park, there were also multiple arrests outside the Emirates Stadium.

As thousands descended on Arsenal’s home to celebrate lifting the Premier League title, 17 people were arrested by police.

Just like the scenes last Tuesday when the Gunners were confirmed as league winners, supporters made the most of the occasion.

However, some involved were apprehended by police for offences that included affray, being drunk and disorderly and assault on an emergency worker.

A Met Police spokesperson said, via MyLondon: “Officers were deployed around the Emirates Stadium and local area on Sunday, 24 May, as large crowds gathered to celebrate Arsenal winning the Premier League.

“Prior to the evening we’d worked closely with Arsenal and our emergency service partners to ensure a plan was in place to manage the expected crowds.

“At around 6pm we put cordons in place to prevent further people entering the vicinity of the stadium. This was to prevent overcrowding and keep people in the area safe.

“While the evening largely passed without incident, we made 17 arrests in the vicinity of the stadium for various offences including affray, being drunk and disorderly and assault on an emergency worker.”
