Twins place Taj Bradley on IL before Guardians game

With the Minnesota Twins continuing the series against the Cleveland Guardians, the team had to place a key pitcher on the injured list (IL), which is one of many pitcher issues the team has had to deal with. Consequently, as the Twins had to deal with injury scares from other players, the latest news deals with pitcher Taj Bradley.

According to Dan Hayes of The Athletic, Bradley will be on the 10-day IL as “he’s dealing with right pectoral muscle inflammation.” Minnesota gets struck with more bad news as the team has already lost 16 in the last 21 games.

“The Minnesota Twins’ tailspin got a little harder to navigate Saturday after starting pitcher Taj Bradley was placed on the 10-day injured list with a chest injury,” Hayes wrote.

“The Twins’ best starter this season was scratched from Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians because he’s dealing with right pectoral muscle inflammation,” Hayes continued.

Twins’ Taj Bradley is considered by some an “ace-caliber pitcher”

As Hayes mentioned, Bradley has been stellar this season for the Twins, recording a 2.87 ERA to go along with 52 strikeouts and a 4-1 record in eight games. He’s been effective, with Bradley getting immense praise throughout the team, as even catcher Ryan Jeffers mentioned how the 25-year-old player is “an ace-caliber pitcher.”

“There is no doubt in anyone’s eyes in this room that (Bradley) was an ace-caliber pitcher,” Jeffers said in early April, via The Athletic. “We couldn’t have been more excited to get him over here. It’s not often you get a chance to have a starter that throws 100 (mph) in your rotation. … And we (heard) about this splitter that’s developing. ‘Hey, he’s working on his splitter. That’s going to be the key.’ He comes into spring, and that splitter is a legit weapon.”

At any rate, it remains to be seen what happens with Bradley and how he progresses with the chest injury, but Minnesota has to keep the ship afloat and turn around its current losing slate. Subsequently, the Twins, who are 16-23, continue the series throughout the weekend against the Guardians, hoping to record some wins.
