Twins manager has heated reaction after getting ejected vs. Reds

The Minnesota Twins suffered a tough 5-4 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday, making it the club’s third straight loss in a row. At one point in the game, things got heated between manager Derek Shelton and the umpires, as he went off on them after being ejected.

In the top of the seventh, Shelton seemingly lost his cool after the umpires didn’t call Elly De La Cruz’s checked swing a strike, even though it looked like a swing. The 55-year-old manager got chirpy from the Twins’ dugout and began complaining aloud. The umpires thought his comments were directed at them, and they tossed him from the contest, which resulted in a heated argument between Shelton and the umpires.

“I wasn’t even f****** talking to you,” proclaimed Shelton several times.

The ejection was Derek Shelton’s second this season, and the 18th of his career (16 ejections during his tenure with the Pittsburgh Pirates). He’s known for being a bit fiery, as Shelton tends to argue with umpires to defend his players.

The Twins’ manager wasn’t the only individual to be ejected in a game on Saturday, as Kansas City Royals manager Matt Quatraro was kicked out of the 13-4 loss to the New York Yankees. His ejection was a little different, though, as Quatraro was seen having a calm conversation with the umpires that turned south.

At the end of the day, Shelton should be back in the dugout for Sunday’s Game 3 matchup against the Reds. The Twins need to win that one to avoid the sweep. That game is scheduled to begin at 2:10 p.m. EST.
