Twins’ biggest flop to begin 2026 MLB season
After trading off most of their team at the 2025 deadline, the Minnesota Twins aren’t expected to be serious playoff contenders in 2026. Still, the Twins want to see which players will be leading their rebuild into the future.
Amongst the veterans in Minnesota’s current lineup, middle infielder Brooks Lee certainly stands out as a potential building block. However, the results haven’t matched what the Twins have been expecting. In their current situation, the franchise is better off seeing what their prospects can do. But they still need to see Lee perform to his potential to justify an everyday roster spot.
As it stands, the Twins are looking to get as much of a spark out of their lineup as possible. But at least to start the season, Lee hasn’t been able to fulfil that goal.
Brooks Lee must reach potential

Through the first 10 games of his 2026 season, Lee is hitting .167 with two RBIs and no other counting stats. Normally, a slow start isn’t much to sneeze at, especially for a 25-year-old. But Lee has yet to show true consistency at the major league level.
Over his 139 games in 2025, Lee hit .236 with 16 home runs, 64 RBIs and three stolen bases. The infielder ranked second on the team in RBIs and fifth in home runs. But his -0.8 WAR was also the second-worst on the team.
At the very least, Lee could’ve at least shown the same level of run production to begin 2026. But his power stroke hasn’t been there, and his turn in the lineup has come and gone without much fanfare.
The Twins are still well aware of how much potential Lee possesses. In 2024, he ranked as the second-best prospect in their organization and No. 18 overall in all of baseball. Over his 195 games at the minor league level, Lee hit .289 with 29 home runs, 129 RBIs and nine stolen bases.
At this point in his career, Minnesota needs to see what they have in Lee. If he can turn things around, then there’s a good chance he has a role in the infield for the foreseeable future. But if he doesn’t live up to his top prospect hype, the Twins will have to alter their plans.
Lee still has plenty of time to turn things around over an 162-game season. Minnesota isn’t going to give up quickly based on his prospect pedigree. But the infielder certainly hasn’t gotten out to the start both he and the franchise were hoping for.
