Trevor Zegras, Flyers push Penguins to brink of sweep with huge Game 3 win

The Stanley Cup Playoffs are in full swing, and the games are living up to the hype. One series, in particular, has brought out a ton of emotion and energy. The Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins do not like each other in the slightest. Thanks in part to Trevor Zegras, the Flyers are closing in on a huge first-round sweep.

Evgeni Malkin opened the scoring for Pittsburgh in the first period. However, momentum swung well in favor of Philadelphia during the second frame. Zegras tied the game after a huge line brawl. And the Flyers did not look back. Philadelphia won this game 5-2, and now leads 3-0 in the series.

The Flyers scored three goals in the second period to take a commanding lead in the contest. However, Pittsburgh refused to quit. They pushed hard to get back in the game during the third period. And they were rewarded, as Erik Karlsson found the back of the net on the power play to make it 3-2.

However, the Flyers were determined to come away with this one. Noah Cates restored the two-goal lead with a power-play tally of his own. And Owen Tippett sealed the deal with an empty-netter late in the third.

This is a notable win for the Flyers, as well. This marks the team’s first home playoff win in 10 years, almost to the day. Their last home postseason victory came on April 20th, 2016 against the Washington Capitals.

The Flyers will celebrate on Wednesday night, but look to focus their efforts on completing the sweep against the Penguins in Game 4 on Saturday.
