Cricket and cinema are two of the biggest passions in India. Whenever the story of a legendary cricketer makes its way to the big screen, it naturally creates a lot of excitement among fans.

After the success of films based on legendary names of Indian cricket, such as MS Dhoni, Mithali Raj, and Sachin Tendulkar, several more cricket biopics are now in the works. Some will showcase incredible on-field achievements, while others will focus on inspiring journeys beyond the game.

Here are 3 upcoming biopics on Indian cricketers

One of the most ambitious cricket films currently in development. The film is tentatively called Lalkaar, a biopic on India's first-ever Test centurion, Lala Amarnath. The film will reportedly feature Aamir Khan in the lead role, while acclaimed filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker will direct the project. The duo reunites 25 years after delivering the Oscar-nominated Lagaan, raising expectations for another memorable sports drama.

The story is expected to explore the impact of Partition on cricket before culminating in the historic 1952 Test series against Pakistan, where Amarnath led India to their first-ever Test victory over their neighbours.

One of the most inspirational stories in Indian cricket is finally set to reach the silver screen. T-Series announced a biopic based on the life of former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, whose journey is filled with remarkable highs and extraordinary resilience. From becoming a teenage prodigy to playing starring roles in India's triumphs at the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup, the film is expected to showcase several unforgettable chapters of his career.

Fans can also expect the iconic moment when Yuvraj smashed six sixes in an over against Stuart Broad during the inaugural T20 World Cup to feature prominently. However, the film will go beyond cricket. It will also highlight Yuvraj's battle with cancer in 2011, his successful recovery, and his inspiring return to international cricket in 2012. His fight against the disease remains one of the most emotional stories in Indian sport.

While the makers are yet to announce the lead actor officially, reports suggest that Siddhant Chaturvedi is among the frontrunners to portray the legendary all-rounder. Chaturvedi made his acting debut with Inside Edge: a cricket-based web series, where he played the role of a young fast bowler Prashant Kanaujia, which portrays that he might be able to play the legendary India all-rounder on the big screen.

Topping the list is Dada, the highly anticipated biopic on former India captain Sourav Ganguly. The film stars Rajkummar Rao in the lead role and will be directed by Vikramaditya Motwane. On Ganguly's 54th birthday, the makers officially announced that the film will hit theatres on May 14, 2027.

The biopic will trace Ganguly's journey from a talented youngster in Kolkata to one of India's greatest captains. It is expected to showcase how he transformed Indian cricket during one of its most challenging phases, instilling aggression, self-belief, and a fearless mindset that changed the team's fortunes.

Recently, Rajkummar Rao was spotted filming at Kolkata's iconic Maidan. Dressed in a white cricket jersey and cap with a new hairstyle, the actor looked remarkably similar to the former Indian skipper, generating excitement among fans.

Given Ganguly's immense contribution to Indian cricket and Rajkummar Rao's reputation as one of Bollywood's finest performers, Dada is undoubtedly one of the most eagerly awaited sports biopics in the country.
