Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball are ‘best f***ing backcourt in NBA,’ per Kendrick Perkins

The Minnesota Timberwolves are hell-bent on getting over the hump after falling short in the playoffs for five straight seasons. They made a bold and unexpected move by acquiring LaMelo Ball in a trade with the Charlotte Hornets, pairing him with Anthony Edwards.

Ball and Edwards entered the NBA at the same time in 2020. Both started as erratic firebrands with limitless potential. Over the years, they have gotten better and more mature, while also displaying more leadership.

Now, the Timberwolves are banking on their tandem to lead them to a deep run and enter the NBA Finals for the first time.

Many are excited to see Ball and Edwards, who are both 24 years old, as teammates, including ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins, who already made a bold claim.

“All of a sudden, you bring back LaMelo with Anthony Edwards. That is the best backcourt in the NBA. I repeat: That is the best f*cking backcourt in the NBA,” said Perkins.

“Now, all of a sudden, you bring back LaMelo [Ball], with Anthony Edwards. That is the best backcourt in the NBA. I repeat, that is the best f*cking backcourt in the NBA.”

He noted that Minnesota made the logical move in acquiring Ball, who was coming off a sensational campaign, leading the Hornets to their best record in 10 years.

“Minnesota had to make that trade. They had to make that trade. The Minnesota Timberwolves were on the clock when it came down to pleasing Anthony Edwards,” said the one-time champion, adding that the team blew its chances with its other lottery picks, Kevin Garnett, Andrew Wiggins, and Karl-Anthony Towns.

Edwards was limited to 61 games this season due to various injuries, while Ball played 72 games, the second-most of his career. Edwards averaged a career-high 28.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.4 steals, while Ball logged 20.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 7.1 assists, and 1.2 steals.
