Tigers manager AJ Hinch offers concerned reaction to scary Parker Meadows injury

Detroit Tigers center fielder Parker Meadows suffered a serious injury after a head-first collision with teammate left fielder Riley Greene during the eighth inning of Thursday’s game against the Minnesota Twins.

The incident occurred when both Meadows and Greene converged on a slicing fly ball hit by Twins batter Josh Bell. Greene made the catch, but his head clipped Meadows’ face in an awkward mid-play collision in left-center field. Meadows fell to the ground and remained down momentarily as medical staff rushed in. He was seen with blood coming from his mouth area and appeared groggy and disoriented.

After several minutes of on-field treatment, Meadows was able to sit up and slowly make his way to a medical cart, though he required assistance. He was later transported to a local hospital in Minneapolis and will reportedly remain there overnight for observation.

After the game, Tigers manager AJ Hinch described the situation as deeply concerning.

“There’s a lot of concern for him, just because when we got out there, it looked like he had bitten his lip or the inside of his mouth. So there was some blood, and he was pretty out of it,” said Hinch. “Those are scary collisions. You don’t know what you’re going to get when you get there. Obviously, we’re going to get him checked out for everything, but this one worries me.”

Following the injury, Javier Baez shifted from shortstop to center field, while Kevin McGonigle entered the game at shortstop. Detroit, tied 1-1 at the time of the incident, went on to lose 3-1 and was swept in the four-game series, bringing their losing streak to five games and dropping their record to 4-9.

Meadows, 26, has played 12 games this season, hitting .250 average (9-for-36) with a double, triple, and three stolen bases. He entered the season with a .234/.310/.384 career line across 188 games, including 16 home runs and 59 RBIs. Last season, he also finished with a .215/.291/.330 line in 58 games while dealing with several injury setbacks.
