Tiger Woods feels ‘ashamed’ of DUI arrest

Tiger Woods is reflecting on his latest DUI arrest.

The five-time Masters champion was arrested on March 27 for a DUI following a rollover crash near his Juniper, Fla. home. In the weeks following the alleged incident, he has reportedly feels humiliated.

“Tiger can be defensive at times but he was embarrassed and ashamed at the latest accident,” the source tells People.

“He wants to fix his problems. There is nobody more interested in seeing Tiger come out a winner again than Tiger,” the source adds. “He doesn’t do well with defeat and embarrassing public situations.”

During his arrest, law enforcement found that two pills that were located in his left pocket were identified as hydrocodone, a prescription opioid for pain relief. He took a breathalyzer, which came back negative, but refused a urine test. The pro golfer spent hours in the Martin County Jail in Stuart, Florida, and was later released on bond. Woods was charged with DUI with property damage, refusal to submit to a lawful urine test, and careless driving. Four days after the incident, he broke his silence and decided to seek treatment overseas.

“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today,” the golfer said in a statement on March 31.

“I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery. I’m committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally,” Woods continued. “I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time.”

The source empasised with him on his struggles outside of golf.

“People are quick to judge Tiger but he’s living through a lot of pain and has been for enough years where it has taken a toll on his quality of life in addition to his golf game,” the source tells the outlet.

The source continues, “He is committed now to getting better, however long that takes.”

Woods has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and has been formally ordered to appear in Martin County court next month.
