Thunder’s SGA gets top 3 PG take from Brandon Jennings after MVP win

The Oklahoma City Thunder recently saw point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander win his second straight MVP award. The recognition comes after another excellent season from SGA, who led the Thunder to the best record in the league as they look to defend their NBA championship from a year ago.

With the accolades quickly rising, Gilgeous-Alexander is rapidly ascending the all-time ranks of NBA guards, and recently, former NBA point guard Brandon Jennings dropped a hot take about the now two-time MVP’s all-time status.

“SGA is top 3 Point Guard All Time!!! At the age of 27. I’m not debating idc. Steph, Magic, SGA,” opined Jennings on X, formerly Twitter.

Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry and Los Angeles Lakers icon Magic Johnson are indeed typically regarded as the two greatest point guards ever, but at this point, SGA certainly has an argument for third. Other contenders for that status include Isiah Thomas, Oscar Robertson, John Stockton, and others.

Gilgeous-Alexander will have a chance to add some more accolades to his trophy case over the next month, as the Thunder look to repeat as NBA champions, and he looks to collect his second straight NBA Finals MVP. The Thunder have made easy work of the competition in the playoffs thus far, sweeping both the Phoenix Suns and the Los Angeles Lakers in the first two rounds, with only one of those games going down to the wire.

However, things figure to get much tougher in the Western Conference Finals against the San Antonio Spurs, who beat Oklahoma City in four out of their five matchups this regular season.

Game 1 between the Spurs and Thunder is slated to get underway on Monday evening at 8:30 pm ET from Oklahoma City.
