AUGUSTA, GA - APRIL 03: Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson of the United States talk on the 11th hole during a practice round prior to the start of the 2018 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club on April 3, 2018 in Augusta, Georgia. (Photo by Andrew Redington/Getty Images) | Getty Images

Phil Mickelson announced on Thursday that he would not be competing at this year’s Masters Tournament. He noted that he is tending to a personal family matter and the world is certainly wishing him all the best.

Earlier in the week it was announced that Tiger Woods would not be a part of the Masters. The news came out less than a week following his rollover crash last week.

From a golf perspective, Tiger and Phil have dominated a generation and then some. They are as synonymous with the game, its signature moments, and its signature events as anybody so for them both to be absent from Augusta feels big.

It has been a long time since a Masters Tournament was played without both Woods and Mickelson. In fact, it has been over 30 years.

The last time a Masters was played sans Woods and Mickelson was 1994. That was over 30 years ago.

It will be interesting to say the least to see what the tournament of all tournaments looks like without these two legends. We are going to find out exactly how it looks very soon.
