The real reason WWE released Kairi Sane emerges
While it was shocking to fans, Kairi Sane’s release by WWE during the company’s latest round of roster cuts didn’t come as a surprise to some.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Radio (via WrestleTalk) reports that Sane’s release was granted because she “indicated that she wanted to move back” to Japan.
Despite speculation, it was “not a money issue.” Meltzer noted that WWE and TKO are in a great place financially, so this decision had nothing to do with her pay.
This makes a lot of sense, as it has been reported that Sane is already back in Japan in the days after her release. It’s unknown what her next step is, but perhaps she’ll rejoin World Wonder Ring Stardom or New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW).
Kairi Sane was the most shocking name in the latest wave of WWE releases

Over the weekend, a large number of WWE Superstars were released. Sane was one of the most notable names on the list. It’s especially surprising because she was in the middle of a storyline at the time of her departure.
For the better part of the last year, her Kabuki Warriors tag team partner, Asuka, has started becoming more hostile towards Sane. It has gotten to the point that Iyo Sky, their former Damage CTRL stablemate, got involved.
All signs pointed to Sane eventually breaking free of Asuka’s grip. However, with her release, that storyline may never be properly paid off.
Asuka will face Sky at the upcoming Backlash PLE on May 9 in Tampa, Florida. Fans have been pushing for WWE to bring Sane back. If they did, it’d be similar to R-Truth coming back after his release at Money in the Bank in 2025.
For now, Sane is not a WWE Superstar. She has had two stints with WWE so far. Fans will have to wait and see if a third ever happens.
