Texas Tech’s Brendan Sorsby motions to dismiss Cincinnati buyout case amid gambling leave

Incoming Texas Tech football quarterback Brendan Sorsby is undergoing counseling for a gambling addiction. The prized College Football Transfer Portal addition via Cincinnati is under NCAA investigation for making “thousand of bets” on a gambling app. But the QB took a step to address his reported gambler habits Monday.

College football insider for Yahoo! Sports Ross Dellenger revealed that Sorsby’s attorneys have filed a motion to dismiss the case.

“On the day that the Brendan Sorsby gambling situation surfaces, Sorsby’s attorneys filed a motion to dismiss the case brought by Cincinnati over the $1 million buyout that UC believes he owes, arguing that the buyout is invalid under Ohio law, unreasonable and unenforceable,” Dellenger posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.

Sorsby isn’t throwing the football nor working with the Red Raiders at the present moment. He’s away from the team as he seeks help and treatment for his addiction to gambling.

ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel reported Sorsby placed a bet on Indiana to win a game in 2022, tying into the betting reports. Sorsby took a redshirt season and never played that year. He’s placed bets on Major League Baseball games too.

His head coach Joey McGuire reacted to Sorsby’s situation via Thamel.

“We love Brendan and support his decision to seek professional help,” McGuire said. “Taking this step requires courage, and our primary focus is on him as a person. Our program is behind Brendan as he prioritizes his health.”

LSU offered him a whopping $3.5 million to join incoming head coach Lane Kiffin. But Sorsby ultimately signed with the Big 12 champs in boosting their QB spot. Sorsby tossed 60 career touchdowns in 35 total games.
