Texas Tech adds All-Mountain West standout in transfer portal

Texas Tech basketball aims to recover from the Alabama loss in March Madness 2026. The Red Raiders took a big step Sunday in addressing the second round defeat: By landing an All-Mountain West standout via Wyoming.

Damarion Dennis is the newest College Basketball Transfer Portal addition to Lubbock. Joe Tipton of On3/Rivals confirmed the move on Sunday evening.

Dennis hands head coach Grant McCasland a recent MWC Honorable Mention to his TTU roster. The 6-foot-1 combo guard averaged 11.2 points per game as a sophomore on the Cowboys.

Dennis delivered three games of surpassing the 20-point mark too, including dropping 20 on conference champ Utah State in the narrow 85-83 loss on Feb. 7. He scored 17 points on St. Patrick’s Day against Wichita State in the National Invitational Tournament (NIT), which became his final Cowboys game after taking the 74-70 defeat.

TTU brings a Texas native home in this portal move, though.

Dennis originally is from San Antonio, starring for Veterans Memorial High. He established himself as a three-star prospect who landed eight total offers. Dennis stayed in the Lonestar State after his prep career by committing to Southland Conference representative Texas A&M-Corpus Crispi.

He started in nine games for the Islanders, playing in 34 total contests. Dennis grabbed 0.8 steals while dishing out 1.3 assists per game.

But he dipped out of TAMU-Corpus Christi and landed at Wyoming for his sophomore season. Laramie became the place where Dennis thrived more in a CBB environment. Now he’s back in the home state and this time, taking the power conference leap.

Texas Tech defeated Akron as its only NCAA Tournament win from a month ago. The new PG’s arrival likely will fuel top 25 chatter for next season.
