Texas Longhorns land 2027 WR over Texas A&M, Ohio State
Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns are building their receiving corps of the future, landing a talented prospect with Briceson Thrower committing to the football program.
Thrower announced his commitment to the Longhorns on Saturday, per On3 insider Hayes Fawcett. Hailing from Forney, Texas, he chose the Longhorns over the Texas A&M Aggies, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Illinois Fighting Illini.
Thrower stands out as a three-star receiver with an 89 score on 247Sports. He ranks 49th among players at his position and 53rd in the state of Texas. His composite score of 0.8878 puts him at 57th, 64th, and 476th nationally in those respective categories.
“Tall, traitsy outside receiver with verified straight-line speed. Owns a 10.76 100-meter PR through junior year. Posted explosive testing numbers in Spring 2026. Displays promising adjustment ability in the air against man coverage downfield. Gained valuable experience working multiple levels in increased role as a junior,” 247Sports Scouting Analyst Gabe Brooks wrote.
“Can be more consistent with hands-catching dexterity. Still working on consistently maximizing physical advantages at the catch point, particularly in shot-play scenarios. Physically gifted outside target with the potential to become a P4/high-major difference maker with proper development.”
What’s next for Texas after landing Briceson Thrower
Steve Sarkisian and Texas got a great prospect with Briceson Thrower coming over to the Longhorns in 2027.
In 2025, Thrower finished his junior season with 32 receptions for 529 yards and five touchdowns on 16.5 yards per catch, per MaxPreps. For the year prior, he caught eight passes for 162 yards as a sophomore.
The Longhorns look to have a resurgence as a national championship contender in 2026. 2025 saw them underachieve expectations. They entered the 2025 season as the consensus preseason number 1 team, but losses to Ohio State, Florida, and Georgia kept them from the College Football Playoff. Despite this, Texas finished with a 10-3 record that saw them beat the Michigan Wolverines in the Citrus Bowl.
