Texans’ Tank Dell shares honest training camp outlook after missing 2025

It has been almost two years since Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell last played in the NFL. He is still recovering from a knee injury he suffered in Week 16 in 2024, which forced him to sit out in 2025.

While his road to recovery has been arduous, Dell, who sustained multiple torn ligaments and meniscus damage, has maintained an optimistic mindset, knowing that his painful setback was merely a prelude for a big comeback.

The 26-year-old Dell is eager to return to action. But first, he has to perform well in training camp to regain his mobility, rhythm, and conditioning and shake off the rust from his long layoff.

He expressed his excitement about finally stepping on the field again on Saturday, even though he was not a full participant.

“I’ll be there. Just to be out there with the team and just to feel the camaraderie, just being out there and catching a ball from CJ (Stroud) and being in the team atmosphere, man, it felt so good. Y’all don’t understand how long I waited for that,” said Dell in a report from NFL.com’s Bobby Kownack.

Dell, who was drafted by the Texans in the third round in 2024, has hurdled other challenges before, including a gunshot wound before his sophomore season.

He showed promise in his first two years, tallying 98 receptions for 1,376 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Dell will have to work his way back to the starting lineup and rejoin fellow pass catchers Nico Collins and Jayden Higgins. Last season, the Texans had a solid but inconsistent offense, averaging 218.1 passing yards and 23.8 points per game.

Dell gave credit to his support system for their ceaseless guidance as he tries to make a successful return and help the Texans get over the hump.

“Our number one goal is to be the first team to put a bull in the ring. That’s the main focus, going to a Super Bowl. That’s all we’re thinking about,” added Dell.
