Tennessee rumors: Volunteers hosting Notre Dame transfer star
The offseason has become just as important as the postseason for elite programs, including Tennessee. With the transfer portal becoming increasingly competitive, the Volunteers do not want to be left behind.
Tennessee entered the offseason with familiar questions: How to replace the departing players? How to inject offensive consistency? How to keep pace with other programs?
The Volunteers could find an answer in Jalen Haralson, who entered the transfer portal after a sensational freshman year at Notre Dame. Tennessee has a good shot at acquiring Haralson, according to one3.com’s Joe Tipton.
“Notre Dame transfer wing Jalen Haralson, a former McDonald’s All-American, will head to Knoxville today to begin his official visit with Tennessee. His list also includes North Carolina and Ohio State, but the ‘Vols are picking up steam in this recruitment and are trending upward,” wrote Tipton.
Haralson averaged 16.2 points, 51.5% field goals, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.6 assists with the Fighting Irish. He is the highest-ranked recruit in program history after a No. 10 rating following his career at La Lumiere School in Indiana.
The 18-year-old forward has tremendous upside. His length, skill set, and versatility are impressive, especially for his age. Many have tagged him as a do-it-all talent.
He could earn a big role right away at Tennessee, which made it to the Elite Eight of this year’s NCAA Tournament before bowing to Michigan.
Haralson would learn a lot from Volunteers coach Rick Barnes, who honed the likes of Kevin Durant, LaMarcus Aldridge, Myles Turner, Jarrett Allen, DJ Augustin, Grant Williams, and Keon Johnson, among others.
